Steam Attemperator
Application Overview:
Attemperator Desuperheaters reduce the steam temperature by combining the superheated steam with water. The steam is cooled through the evaporation of the water. The flow control of water is critical to ensure the correct temperature and pressure are achieved. This process can see as much as 1200 psi drop across the temperature control valve. Wear and erosion are common problems encountered in this application. This application is often referred to as Steam Conditioning.
Kates Solution:
The Kates Automatic Flow Controllers are self-contained units that respond to pressure changes up and downstream to maintain the optimized set flow. In highly abrasive processes, the Kates valve is commonly outfitted with specialized trim to prevent erosion. The Kates can handle massive pressure drops due to the geometry of the symmetric valve and its ability to stay in equilibrium. Kates has been proven to outlast other valves used in steam attemperators by 4 to 5 times.
