Kates Valve

Sodium Hypochlorite Application Sheet

Application Overview:

Municipalities can operate and manage one or many wastewater facilities. Large plants and refineries also have wastewater facilities to treat water that has been contaminated during their production process. Sodium Hypochlorite is a common chemical used to disinfect sewage water and industrial wastewater. During this disinfection process, flow control is critical. If there is too little flow, the system will not effectively be treated. If there is too much flow, the pH levels of the water will be too high to pass DEQ standards. Treating wastewater with Sodium Hypochlorite is a delicate balance. The improper flow will lead to government fines and poor water quality.

Kates Solution:

The Kates flow controller will maintain a constant flow of sodium hypochlorite within 1.5% accuracy of its setpoint. This ensures that proper disinfection rates are met. A PVC Kates unit is chemically compatible with sodium hypochlorite (including many other chemicals). With actuation, a Kates can remotely be positioned to a known setpoint. The valve can then be monitored remotely and actuated to supply differing NaOCl rates depending on the incoming flow of the wastewater.
